Comparison between the group who died of AKA alcoholism versus those that died of DKA used student t test for continuous data and Chi-square analysis for proportions. Deaths due to DKA underwent further analysis, where comparisons were made between those with, and without, a known history of diabetes. This subgroup analysis examined 2 smaller groups;
